Fuel Savings - Easy Ways To Save Money
Going on some trips and wondering how incorporate fuel savings? Well there are a few things you can do that can help you - with your wallet and our environment.
Travel light and pack smart when you're heading out on the open road. When you're going on a trip and you're packing your car, extra weight is going to decrease fuel economy. Another thing to do while packing your things before you go on a trip, is try to get everything inside of the vehicle. When things are on the roof or in the bed of the truck you are going to produce drag. If you can minimize drag you will increase your mileage.
Try not to drive so aggressively. By constantly pressing on your breaks and then hitting the gas you can lower your gas mileage by 33% while driving on the highway and 5% in town. Slow down while driving on the highway, even going 5mph over the posted speed limit can result in a 6% loss of fuel economy.
Take it easy on the air conditioning, crack a window sometimes. Using air conditioning all the time can decrease your fuel efficiency by 12%. If you're car comes equipped with cruise control, use it while you're on those long drives. You'll notice that using cruise control will save you up to 14% on fuel economy.
If you find yourself on the highway and you're not moving and won't be for awhile, turn your engine off. Did you know that when you idle for more than 10 seconds that you use more gas and it creates more global warming pollution then when you start your engine? So keep an eye out while you idle.
The best way to save on fuel would be to carpool. You're not only saving yourself money, but you're also helping our environment by putting fewer cars on the road. Many people are willing to carpool, to save the money, and if you're all going to the same place, then why not? There are many ways to help with fuel savings. Weather it's driving more efficiently, maintaining your car or just driving less. Keep an eye out on these things and you should notice better mileage out of your car with less money out of your wallet.
